Dominic Calvert-Lewin justifies Sean Dyche decision as key milestone reached in Everton v West Ham United

Everton manager Sean Dyche had plenty of big decisions to make in the build-up to his club’s clash with West Ham.

One of which involved whether or not to play striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin from the start, with the injury-prone star playing a lot of football recently.

Managing his minutes on the pitch is key to Everton’s success this season, with the forward one of their main sources of goals.

The 26-year-old had started his club’s last five matches before the clash at the London Stadium on Sunday (29 October).

And despite his recent injury issues, Dyche once again opted to start with Calvert-Lewin leading the line. Temptation undoubtedly got the better of the boss, with his star striker having scored in three of those matches.

The likes of Youssef Chermiti, Beto or Arnaut Danjuma could have all been handed the huge responsibility from the very first whistle.

But the decision from the man in the dugout was justified by the Toffees forward as he banged in the only goal of the game to secure a huge away win against the Hammers.

Chermiti replaced the match-winner in the closing minutes of the game at the London Stadium, with the latter rightfully earning a boisterous appraisal from the travelling fans.

The goal not only clinched three points for the Toffees, but it also represents Calvert-Lewin’s 50th goal for Everton in the Premier League, as per BBC Match of the Day.

The manager is now certain to hand his goalscorer a well-earned rest when the boss welcomes his former club Burnley to Goodison Park for their EFL Round of 16 encounter on Wednesday (1 November).

It is the perfect opportunity for the aforementioned reserve forwards to impress the boss, having failed to hit the heights expected of them in blue so far.
