Everton: Sean Dyche must brace himself for big-money transfer offers for Amadou Onana after what he did v West Ham

Everton may well have to brace themselves for several offers on Amadou Onana very soon after his latest sensational display against West Ham.

The Toffees returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday (29 October) at the London Stadium when Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s piece of individual brilliance gave them another impressive away day 1-0 victory.

On a poignant day for the Merseyside club, striker Calvert-Lewin turned his marker with a clever flick before firing low into the bottom corner in what was their first game since the death of chairman Bill Kenwright.

The result means Everton move five points clear of the relegation zone, climbing above Nottingham Forest – who lost 3-0 at Liverpool – on goal difference to sixth from bottom in the table.

While Dyche will be delighted at the result on such a tough away ground, he could well be caught with some mixed emotions on the performance of star player Onana who was absolutely everywhere at the London Stadium, which could ultimately lead to several January interest.

The Belgian international joined Goodison Park in a big-money £33m move last summer and has swiftly become a star player and an instant hit amongst the Everton support despite a tough year at Goodison Park.

As a result of his swift emergence on the scene in the English top-flight and his showstopping performances in a struggling Everton team, Onana has been attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League’s elite.

The Belgium midfielder was the subject of a reported approach by Manchester United in the summer (Guardian, 14 August), while Chelsea were also credited with an interest (Daily Mail, 16 June).

The Daily Mail reported on 11 July that the Toffees were under pressure to sell the 22-year-old star, who starred during the 2022/23 season, because of the club’s considerable financial constraints.

No such transfers materialised over the summer which will have come as some major relief to manager Sean Dyche but those big-money enquiries may well be on the cards again after a complete showing in East London.

As per SofaScore, Onana successfully completed 41 of his 46 passes at a tremendous success rate of 89%, recorded one key pass, completed 75% of his long balls, 100% of his dribbles, won a whopping ten of his 14 ground duels and two of his aerial duels and only losing possession just eight times.

Defensive midfielders are becoming a much-coveted position amongst the elite clubs on the continent and this latest stunning showing from Onana who is rapidly becoming one of the best around, could well lead to Everton fielding a few big-money offers in the coming months.

Dyche must certainly now brace himself at Goodison Park.
