Ashley Young back in contention as Everton team news emerges v Burnley

Ashley Young is back in contention to start for Everton in their Carabao Cup clash with Burnley on 1 November after serving his suspension picked up against Liverpool, according to Ben Dinnery.

The injury expert shared via his Twitter account on 1 November that Andre Gomes and Dele Alli remain out of contention and are still “a bit away” from rejoining the group at Finch Farm.

Dinnery shared the information from his Premier Injuries website, with no press conference scheduled for Sean Dyche today, to provide an update on the possible team news ahead of the Cup game.

Rotation may be necessary

As much as Young’s performance in the Merseyside derby was a letdown for the club and fans, in what was a tightly-contested game before he was sent off, his place in the squad is still important for rotation and fitness.

Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko were the defensive duo that started the game against West Ham when Everton won 1-0, but Dyche may be tempted to bring Young in for rotation in an attempt to keep the players fit and bring some experience into his side.

Dyche is known to appreciate the experience Young brings to the team, and while his performances at Goodison Park so far haven’t been stellar, he remains in the first-team plans. A cup clash could be the perfect way to ease him back in and see how he performs.

Everton

The continued absences of Alli and Gomes won’t come as too much of a blow to Everton, with neither having been involved at all this season, but when their returns do come it could provide a welcome relief and opportunity for further resting and rotation.

In other Everton news, an update has emerged on a possible Jordan Pickford transfer.
