Sean Dyche does rarely seen £15m Youssef Chermiti ‘the world of good’ with recent move ahead of Beto at Everton
Sean Dyche will have done summer signing Youssef Chermiti “the world of good” by bringing him on at a key point as Everton beat West Ham at the weekend, according to Paul Brown.
Speaking to GiveMeSport (31 October) the former Daily Star journalist said the decision to bring the Portuguese youngster on for goalscorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin with the 1-0 win still hanging in the balance will have boosted the teenager’s confidence.
Chermiti has seen less than 90 minutes of Toffees action in total since his £15million arrival from Sporting Lisbon in the summer [BBC Sport, 11 August], and while Brown believes it was “interesting” that he was chosen over compatriot Beto in the 89th minute at the London Stadium he thinks it could have been a “good move”.

Brown said: “You’d have to ask Sean Dyche. I think he probably looked at the situation in the game and saw something that he thought might be useful in Chermiti in that situation.
“I don’t really have a problem with it. I think it was interesting, but I don’t think we should read too much into it and the guy needs minutes and chances.
“So I think it will do him the world of good that the manager trusted him in a situation where the game was far from over. And it’s not like he was getting garbage time minutes, he was expected to put a shift in for the team that was trying to see out a very important road win.
“That should give him some confidence and I think it was a good move.”
Kickstart?
Chermiti was always seen as a development project when he was signed in the summer, and arguably made it a surprise that the club were willing to put decent money up for him at all in their current state.
Beto’s arrival for £25.75m [Sky Sports, 29 August] seemed far more important as a senior scorer with the physical stature to stand in for Calvert-Lewin if injury issues continued.
Instead, the England man’s fitness has improved hugely and he has been crucial in the improved form of late under Dyche.

Calvert-Lewin’s four goals in eight appearances, including the winner at West Ham, has highlighted just how badly he was missed over the majority of the past two campaigns.
It has meant Chermiti has barely featured and even Beto has been restricted, with just one strike in the Carabao Cup.
While no money is believed to have yet been spent on either of the summer signings there is a hefty expense to come on the two combined, so it might be a concern for some that Everton haven’t got much of a return on investment yet.
For peace of mind at the very least they had to come in, but if they prove to be largely unnecessary because Calvert-Lewin is fit and firing the majority of fans won’t be complaining.
