Dele Alli to exit Everton – ‘he’s gone’

talkSPORT host Alan Brazil cannot see a way back for Dele Alli at Everton after a development that emerged on Friday (3 November).

The Mirror reported that Everton have opened talks with Tottenham over a plan to potentially rescue Dele’s Goodison Park career.

Everton paid nothing up front when signing the former England international in February 2022, instead agreeing a complicated payment structure.

The first £10million payment will be triggered once Dele plays seven more games, but the club are hoping to renegotiate those terms.

If that is not possible, though, then it may well be that the former MK Dons ace is left watching on from the stands.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast on Friday [3 November, 06:27], Brazil said: “I think he’s gone.

“But I wish him well and hope he can rediscover a bit of his magic touch because as a youngster he was very, very good.”

Where next?

Dele is currently rehabbing following an injury setback in the summer, but he should be back available for selection soon.

That is when Sean Dyche will have a big decision to make, albeit one that is possibly out of his hands.

Should Spurs make Everton stick to the agreement reached last year, the Toffees are unlikely to field Dele again – or at least not seven times.

It goes without saying that is simply not fair on the midfielder. If he’s left out on merit, fair enough, but not because of external factors.

That then begs the question of what exactly is next for Everton and Dele? It may well be that he is given permission to seek another club.

Whether the player will want a pay-off remains to be seen, but it is in his best interests to find a club where he can enjoy his football again.

Unfortunately, right now, that does not look like it will be with Everton.

In other Everton news, 777 Partners has reportedly disclosed financial details to the Premier League regarding how it intends to finance a £500m purchase of the club.
