Richard Keys fumes at Everton live on beIN Sports after player footage emerges v Brighton

Richard Keys has criticised Everton for their poor defending in the build-up to the own goal scored by Ashley Young against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Vitaliy Mykolenko’s first-half goal had Everton on course for their first successive Premier League wins since October 2022.

However, Kaoru Mitoma’s cross deflected in off Young’s knee in the 84th minute to earn Brighton a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Everton winger Jack Harrison backed off Mitoma, allowing the Brighton ace to send in a cross that ultimately ended up in the back of the net.

Speaking on beIN Sports’ live coverage of the match [4 November, 17:17], Keys said: “It’s too easy.

“Get in his face and stop the cross. Look.”

Disappointing

While a point at home to Brighton is a positive enough result, Sean Dyche will be unhappy that his side were unable to see out the final stages.

Even more so, in fact, when you consider just how avoidable the Brighton equaliser was.

Harrison was turned inside out by Mitoma, who then had some incredible fortune with the manner of the deflection off Young.

The Leeds United loanee will no doubt be wondering why Young was so narrow, as it should not have been on him to cut out the cross.

Some may wonder if Jordan Pickford could perhaps have done more to tip it over the crossbar, but that would be a harsh assessment.

Whoever was responsible, it was a disappointing moment in an otherwise good match that had its fair share of controversial incidents.

As the dust now settles, a point apiece seems like a fair outcome on the face of it.

In other Everton news, Keys and Andy Gray also reacted to a “breathtaking” incident in the draw with Brentford on Saturday (4 November).
