Sean Dyche handed boost as fresh Seamus Coleman update emerges at Everton

Everton continued their revival under Sean Dyche with a well-earned point against Brighton on Saturday (4 November).

It could, of course, have been much sweeter for the Toffees at Goodison Park, who led after just seven minutes through Vitaliy Mykolenko’s goal.

But the hosts were denied all three points when Ashley Young sent the ball past his own goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the 84th minute. Dyche will have mixed views on the result, with satisfaction coming after a draw against a talented Seagulls side.

But there will be frustration also, with the man in the dugout knowing that his players fell just short of a memorable and important win.

Away from Goodison Park meanwhile, the boss was handed a positive update concerning a first-team star, with Seamus Coleman returning to competitive action.

As per the official Everton website (4 November), the right-back played for the club’s Under-21s against Manchester United on the same day the first-team drew with Brighton.

On his first match after five months out with a knee injury, Coleman played the opening 45 minutes of the game at Leigh Sports Village.

It remains to be seen how far away the veteran defender is from a return to playing under Dyche, but it is now closer than ever. It’s a huge boost for the manager, who has really missed his captain in recent months, both on and off the pitch.

The club’s Under-21s are in action again on Tuesday (7 November) with a trip to Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy, in what could be another great chance for Coleman to get some much-needed minutes under his belt.
