Club takeover advisor slams 777 Partners’ ‘painfully skewed’ presentation amid Everton takeover

One club takeover advisor has slammed 777 Partners for a “painfully skewed” presentation amid their potential takeover of Everton.

The American-based investment firm has agreed on a deal to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the Toffees, with their takeover bid currently being forensically analysed by the Financial Conduct Authority, the FA and the Premier League.

777 Partners had put together a sales pitch for their latest plan of “Project Echo” where they are looking for investment into their eight football clubs, including Everton. But one advisor has slammed the presentation as only being appropriate for “an idiot.”

As quoted by The Athletic (6 November) they said: “The sales desk is painfully skewed — not a single flaw mentioned. To an idiot, who has lived in a bubble, this would be a good pitch.

“But it omits all of the bad performances, on the pitch and financially, and uses irrelevant descriptive statistics to make things look good.”

More bad news

It feels as though Everton supporters are still waiting for the first bit of positive news that has come along with the perspective takeover by 777 Partners, with almost everything published about the Miami-based firm seeming to demonstrate that they are far from the ideal owners.

So far the positivity seems to be limited to the fact that Josh Wander and his company aren’t Farhad Moshiri and that is where the list starts and ends. They are trying to sell clubs a dream, as displayed by the advisor’s comments without touching upon the negatives of their ownership.

Nearly every one of the seven clubs already under the ownership of 777 Partners are struggling domestically off and on the field, yet somehow the company is attempting to display to the FCA, Premier League, the FA and potential future investors that everything is going well across their clubs.

Time will tell whether or not the powers at be in English football will allow 777 to take over the Goodison Park club and whether they believe the positivity that the American firm has been proclaiming. But given the indication that their pitch would be fit for “an idiot” it seems naive to assume they will have the Toffees’ best interests at heart.

Would being under their ownership really be much better than what Everton are experiencing under Moshiri?
