Former Leeds United chief takes dig at Everton amid FFP twist

Ex Leeds United chief Victor Orta believes that his future would’ve been different had Everton been sanctioned last season instead of this season.

Orta, who’s now at Sevilla, was sacked by Leeds due to poor performances at Leeds in the transfer market as well as managerial appointments.

He believes that English clubs do not consider FFP rules as much as sides in other European countries do.

He told the Daily Mail, “One thing I don’t like in England is the lack of consideration of the [financial fairplay] rules. LaLiga is trying to create sustainable clubs with break-even budgets.

“Perhaps my future would have been different – for better or worse – if Everton’s points deduction was for last season.”

Unfair

It seems like Everton are being vilified about this while other Premier League clubs have also been accused of shady dealings.

Things are far from right at Everton and there’s a feeling that they’re being used as an example and it’s hard for the club and their fans to not take personally.

What Orta means is that had the points deduction been given last season, Leeds would’ve had a better chance of staying up.

However, they finished 19th and not 18th so there’s actually not much that would’ve changed and it would’ve been the Toffees instead of Leicester.

All the relegated clubs have been targeting the Goodison Park outfit as they feel that’s how things should be impacted and not on performances on the field of play.

It remains to be seen what happens but all of this just sounds like sour grapes at this point in time.
