Jordan Pickford heaps praise on ‘passionate’ Everton fans impact at Goodison Park

Jordan Pickford has spoken in detail about his strong relationship with the Everton supporters at Goodison Park and the impact he feels they have on their performances.

The England number one spoke about how important he feels it is to give his all every time he plays for Everton after seven seasons at the club with the expectation of the crowd.

Pickford also mentioned how his passion as a player plays up to the feeling in the crowd which has helped to create a strong relationship between them over the years.

Speaking to the official Everton website, Pickford shared: “Obviously, I don’t go on social media but I know the Evertonians have my back. I think we have a good bond with each other.

“They know I wear this shirt with pride and give my all for them every time I’m on the pitch. I’m in my seventh season here now and I know what this club is all about and what the people want from us.

“The minimum is to leave everything out there on a matchday, give your all. I will always give that and I think that is why they will back me all the way.

“Passion. That’s the word. Evertonians are incredibly passionate and I think they see that I’m a passionate footballer. We’ve got to make Goodison a really difficult place to come to again, then take that feeling away from home.

“Everyone knows what kind of atmosphere Goodison can generate. I first felt it when I played for Sunderland and, honestly, it’s unbelievable. It’s daunting.”

Keeping up inspiring performances

Pickford performing in front of a roaring Goodison Park is a match made in heaven. His own passion while he’s playing goes perfectly alongside the roar of the crowd, and often the two work together in unison.

A big save, followed by a celebration from Pickford and the crowd, will always get the fans on their feet and the atmosphere charged, while that charged atmosphere rubs off on the goalkeeper and leads to an improvement in his own display, keeping that connection strong.

So often the goalkeeper can prove to be the difference between a win and a loss, with big saves at crucial times such as the last-minute double save to earn Everton their first point of the season away against Sheffield United, and that can only make that bond stronger.

After seven years at Everton, Pickford’s performances are showing no signs of slowing down, and if he can contribute to another strong season, the strong relationship between him and the fans doesn’t look like slowing down either.
