Ben Godfrey may have played last match under Sean Dyche as Everton transfer news emerges

Everton are slowly but surely building momentum under Sean Dyche, but the manager may want to add to his squad in January to ensure the momentum doesn’t stop.

To do that, however, the manager may need to force out a handful of players, one of which may be defender Ben Godfrey.

The 25-year-old has been an outcast at Goodison Park this season, making just two appearances in all competitions.

Even then, one of those appearances involved being on the pitch for a matter of minutes against Sheffield United in September.

Along with that Premier League appearance, Godfrey played the entire 90 minutes as Everton defeated Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup in the previous match.

And it turns out the very brief cameo against the Blades may just represent the player’s final match under Dyche, with both Tottenham and Newcastle United interested in his signature in the January transfer window, according to 90min (8 November).

Dyche really shouldn’t stand in the way of a player who desperately needs minutes, while Godfrey himself should be jumping at the chance to leave Goodison Park and get regular minutes elsewhere.

It is highly unlikely that the powers that be at Everton can gain such a fee for his sale given his lack of minutes lately, but an offer could come in that would allow Dyche to find a more useful replacement.
