Everton made right call with Abdoulaye Doucoure contract as ‘staggering’ table-topping statistic emerges
Everton haven’t had too many standout players in recent years, with the club struggling at the bottom end of the Premier League.
It has been a somewhat similar situation once again this time around, with the Toffees currently sitting 16th in the table.
But there has been a recent resurgence, and one player that has been central to anything good from the club is midfield ace Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The 30-year-old has just committed his future to the Goodison Park outfit, signing an extension to his contract until June 2025 [official Everton website, 3 November]. It was a very smart decision from the powers that be on Merseyside, with Doucoure shining on the pitch this season.
As per Sky Sports (9 November), the midfielder sits top of the pile when it comes to player presses in the current Premier League campaign.
“Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure leads the way for pressures this term with a staggering 488 to date – that’s 66 clear of runner-up and renowned workhorse Jordan Ayew – who signed a new deal at Palace this month,” according to Sky Sports.

The figures don’t stop there, however, with only Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (126.24km) and Brentford’s Christain Norgaard (126.10km) covering more distance than Doucoure (125.48km).
Of course Everton need talented players if they are to survive this season, but Doucoure brings both talent and a superb workrate to the team, which not many players at the club possess.
The former Watford man even brings goals, with Doucoure netting against Sheffield United, Brentford and Bournemouth this season.
