Phil McNulty moots ‘false dawn’ for Everton after recent development
Everton can start looking up the Premier League table rather than down at the sides below them after their recent results, according to Phil McNulty.
Responding to readers’ questions on the BBC Sport website on Monday (13 November), the journalist said the current Toffees team have “all the hallmarks” of a Sean Dyche side, but he added that the quality on display shouldn’t be overlooked either.
Asked if the recent upturn in fortunes could be another “false dawn”, McNulty said only “time will tell” as he insisted that they are a “much-improved team”.

“I genuinely think Everton can start looking up rather than down and I don’t say that lightly,” said McNulty. “Sean Dyche has got Everton organised and showing a resilience I never thought they had. In previous times I suspect they would have lost to Crystal Palace after being pegged back to 2-2, instead they went on to win.
“They have all the hallmarks of a Dyche team but let’s not overlook some of the quality they are showing. Idrissa Gueye’s winner was a very good move. Is it another false dawn? Time will tell, but they are a much-improved team.”
Progress
There appears to have been a reasonable amount of progress made on the pitch for Everton over the past few weeks following the recent performances.
After a difficult start to the season, the results have dramatically turned around after the Toffees have started to find the back of the net more frequently while also remaining solid at the back.
They are really showing the signs of a Dyche team that are all working towards the same goal with the effort levels they have been displaying.

It’s hard to say whether or not this is just another false dawn, but the signs are there to suggest it isn’t as they continue their surge up the table.
There is no real reason for the Blues to continue looking over their shoulders after opening up an eight-point gap on the sides in the relegation zone as they look to forge a successful season on Merseyside.
In other Everton news, a BBC pundit wanted one “sensational” Toffees man to join another Premier League club.
