BBC journalist shares ‘rare’ admission after what Everton players did: ‘They weren’t afraid’
The Everton players “weren’t afraid” to go out and try and win the game against Crystal Palace after the hosts equalised with less than 20 minutes to go, according to James Mountford.
Writing on the BBC Sport website on Wednesday (15 November), the BBC Radio Merseyside journalist said the Toffees may have “shut up shop” and settled for a draw under the same circumstances last season.
He added that the Blues can now afford to target a “rare victory” against a hit-and-miss Manchester United when the sides go head-to-head on 26 November.

“Perhaps last season they may have shut up shop for the last 16 minutes after Palace’s second equaliser,” said Mountford. “But they weren’t afraid to go the win. Goals are also coming from different parts of the team – a left-back and two midfielders on Saturday, for instance.
“Manchester United to come next and given their opponents’ hit-and-miss form, Everton can afford to target a rare victory.”
Confidence
There is much more confidence bouncing around all those associated with Everton at the moment on the back of their recent results.
After a disappointing start to the season, the Toffees have responded well and managed to pick up six wins from their past nine games.
After claiming three points away at West Ham and Crystal Palace lately, the Blues will certainly believe they can pick up another positive result against Erik ten Hag’s struggling Manchester United at Goodison Park.

The players appear to be buying into what Sean Dyche is asking from them at the moment as they are creating plenty of chances while also remaining fairly solid at the back.
It will be interesting to see where they are at when they do come up against the Red Devils after working on a few things on the training ground during the international break.
In other Everton news, a BBC pundit wanted one “sensational” Toffees man to join another Premier League club.
