Kevin Thelwell issues behind-the-scenes promise as Everton make Francis Okoronkwo announcement
Kevin Thelwell has issued a behind-the-scenes promise as Everton make Francis Okoronkwo’s contract announcement until 2026.
The Toffees announced, via their official website on 14 November, that the 19-year-old has put pen to paper after his impressive displays for the under-18s and under-21s.
Thelwell promised that the club will continue to look at how he develops at Finch Farm after impressive performances since he moved to Goodison Park in 2021.

“We’re delighted to have Francis extend his deal. He’s a very promising young player and he’s progressed well since joining the Club.
“As a striker, he’s really well-rounded and he’s already earned valuable experience at a young age, so we look forward to watching him continue his development at Everton.”
Good move
Securing long-term contracts for promising young players is vital for Everton as it ensures stability and continuity within the team, fostering a cohesive and familiar playing environment.
By committing young talents to extended contracts, the Toffees minimise the risk of losing them to rival clubs, safeguarding their investment in player development.
Moreover, long-term contracts enhance a player’s market value, providing the club with leverage in negotiations and potential transfer deals.

This financial prudence is especially crucial for a club like Everton, allowing them to make strategic decisions in the transfer market and maintain competitiveness against wealthier rivals.
From a sporting perspective, tying down the best young players demonstrates a commitment to nurturing talent and building for the future.
It promotes a sense of loyalty and belonging among the players, fostering a positive team culture that can translate into on-field success.
