Journalist: Everton Women handed perfect opportunity to recover from Chelsea defeat
Everton have been handed the perfect opportunity to get over their recent run of heavy defeats as they host Bristol City at Walton Hall Park, according to Beth Lindop.
The Liverpool Echo journalist shared her view on 16 November that Everton could pick up their first home points of the season to climb out of the peripheries of the danger zone.
Everton Women have suffered three losses in their last four games, with their only point coming in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham in between 5-0 and 7-0 defeats to Manchester United, followed by a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Everton need to turn things around
A clash against the bottom side in newly-promoted Bristol City should be an ideal opportunity to earn three points, as the Robins are winless so far this season, but they can’t afford to get complacent despite an upturn in performance against Chelsea.
While Brian Sorensen’s side has failed to pick up points recently, there have been positives to take from their performances. The boss said the 7-0 cup defeat to United was expected, while Emma Hayes praised the side for their display in that 3-0 loss.
Hayes admitted that Everton were unlucky to go into half-time 1-0 down after an impressive first 45 minutes, before her side put them to the sword in the second half, although the result looks worse on paper than their performance suggested.
It was a spirited and determined clash against the reigning champions, which earned resounding applause from the home support, who recognised the difficult situation and will be hoping for more points against Bristol City.
