Everton points deduction: Journalist outlines good news to come out of Friday verdict

Everton being docked 10 points will only help to further “unite” everyone at the club, according to The esk.

The Everton-focused writer reacted to the hefty punishment passed down on Friday (17 November) after the club were found to have breached the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

The punishment is the biggest sporting sanction in the competition’s history, but the Toffees intend to appeal the decision.

In a post on his personal Twitter page [17 November], The esk said: “Can only say that the Premier League punishment for breaking P&S rules is wholly disproportionate and that every Evertonian will back the appeal by Everton.

“The punishment further demonstrates the appalling governance of the PL. On the positive, you have created a unifying cause. If it has to be Everton v the world so be. Evertonians will unite behind our club.”

Not all doom and gloom

This punishment is unprecedented in Premier League terms, given it is the first time the ruling body has actively sought to take points off a team.

Everton have slipped down to 19th in the table as a result, meaning that a relegation battle is now back on.

Had this deduction been imposed a few weeks ago, the Toffees would have been in almighty trouble as results were so bad.

However, Sean Dyche has massively turned things around on that front and there is still real belief of climbing out of the bottom three.

Luton Town in 17th place are only two points better off, while Bournemouth in 16th are five points ahead, so the situation is not all that bleak.

There has been an impression that Dyche has created a siege mentality behind the scenes for a while now, and this announcement will only see him double down on that approach.

An appeal awaits, but for now it is over to the players to drag us out of the relegation zone.

In other Everton news, a journalist has dropped a “very unwise” verdict after something he has read regarding the 777 Partners takeover situation.
