Matt Smith rages at ‘disgusting’ Everton 10-point deduction as ‘how quickly’ question asked

The decision to deduct Everton 10 Premier League points is “disgusting”, according to GIVEMESPORT journalist Matt Smith.

The Toffees have received the punishment after being found to have breached the league’s financial fair play rules [BBC Sport, 17 November].

The points deduction has been applied immediately, with the Merseyside outfit now dropping to 19th place in the table.

“The biggest sporting sanction in Premier League history,” Smith wrote on Twitter. “10 points. Charged and punished how quickly?

“Everyone else getting away with far, far worse. Let’s make an example of Everton. Disgusting.”

Harsh?

Everton fans will be absolutely devastated at the news regarding the points deduction, particularly given how it seems that other clubs have gotten away with similar breaches without any punishment.

Of course any punishments to those clubs could still arrive, but Toffees supporters will point to the fact that their club have been punished first, and indeed quite severely.

The deduction comes at a really bad time for the Merseyside outfit, who were just beginning to find their groove and launch themselves up the Premier League table.

Now they have been pushed way back down, with Sean Dyche now facing a huge uphill challenge as he looks to move the club out of the dreaded relegation zone once more.

All of their hard work in recent weeks has now been worthless, which will be a real blow to the players, who worked tirelessly to pick up impressive victories against the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham.
