Neville Southall tells Everton to ‘suck it up’ in ‘harsh and horrendous’ verdict after points deduction
Everton have been told to suck up their 10-point Premier League deduction by club legend and pundit Neville Southall.
As per Sky Sports (17 November), the Toffees were handed the punishment for a breach of the league’s profit and sustainability rules.
The Merseyside outfit, who have fallen from 14th place to 19th place in the Premier League table, will appeal the decision.
“It has been coming so it is no surprise,” Southall told BBC Radio 5 Live, as quoted by BBC Sport. “But at the end of the day they knew it was coming and if they are doing Everton they are doing other clubs as well. Otherwise it is discrimination against one club.
“However, if I was them I would just take it and get it out of the way. It sounds harsh and horrendous but if you broke the rules, you broke the rules – just suck it up.”
Get on with it?
Everton are clearly very angry at the decision from the Premier League, which has fired the club back down the table after their recent rise.
The Toffees have been going strong lately, defeating the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham, as well as earning a draw against Brighton.
The hard work on and off the pitch led to the club climbing to 14th spot in the standings, but they are now level on just four points with rock bottom Burnley.
It remains to be seen just how successful the appeal will be, but for now Sean Dyche must gather his thoughts and indeed his players and explain the full situation to them.
A real squad effort, which has been the case at Goodison Park recently, is now needed if the Toffees are to surge up the standings once more.
They currently sit two points from safety, with Manchester United their first game back after the current international break.
