Everton legend Neville Southall raves about Jordan Pickford after what he’s done

There is no better keeper around for England than Everton star Jordan Pickford, according to Neville Southall.

Speaking on the Toffees’ website on Thursday (16 November), the former Blues keeper said he’s been impressed by the responsibility the 29-year-old has taken on as he believes he’s doing a “really good job”.

He added that the Goodison ace is “good under pressure” and tipped him to get “even better with experience” after nailing down the number-one shirt for both club and country over a number of years.

“I think the responsibility Pickford has taken on is great and I don’t think anyone is better than him for England,” said Southall. “That position is 90 per cent mental and 10 per cent physical. So he’s getting better and he’s doing a really good job.

“Obviously, he’s good under pressure when he plays for England because, I think, if you’re English it’s a totally different ball game. Give me a better goalie than him in England who’s English.

“To play 250 games at Everton is obviously good, and as a goalkeeper, you live and die by your decisions. Let’s be honest, if you look at those 250 games, he’s made a lot of right ones and I think he will get even better with experience.”

Solid

There have been some questions asked about Pickford over the years, but he has been a pretty solid performer for Everton throughout the majority of his time at the club.

The keeper has played a major role in helping the Toffees fight off relegation over the past two seasons and he’s been just as important during this campaign.

He has also been superb for England after making 56 appearances for his country while fighting off several other contenders for the number-one spot.

He is one player that Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has continued to pick during his time in charge after putting in a number of impressive displays in international tournaments.

The keeper is still on the right side of 30 and he’ll be hoping he’s still got a number of years left in him to keep performing at the highest level.
