Everton handed new blow after 10-point deduction as official Premier League statistic emerges

Everton definitely need a lot of confidence going into the next round of matches following the international break.

That is because of the recent points deduction handed to the Toffees, with the Merseyside outfit docked 10 points for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules [BBC Sport, 17 November].

After a lot of hard work from Sean Dyche and his players on and off the pitch, they are now back to the drawing board.

Taking place with immediate effect, the points deduction has resulted in Everton dropping from 14th place to 19th place in the Premier League table.

And now further misery has been piled onto the Toffees with the statistic that they sit joint-top of the pile for clubs with the toughest next eight league matches, according to the official Premier League website (20 November).

Everton take on a whole host of top clubs between now and 2 January, including Manchester City, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Chelsea.

Also on the list are Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Burnley, with all of those opponents having an average league position of 9.25.

That figure places Dyche’s side right at the very top alongside Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace, who must take on the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in the coming month and a bit.

It is certainly not what Everton supporters want to hear after the latest development at Goodison Park, but the club are on a good run of form nonetheless, and can kickstart this period with a win against Manchester United on Sunday (26 November).

In other Everton news, Neville Southall has shared one “good thing” about the club’s points deduction, with a Premier League relegation prediction made.
