Finance Expert shares three things Everton will use in Premier League appeal
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton
Dan Plumley has insisted there are three likely lines of attack that Everton can use in their expected appeal against the 10-point deduction handed down by the Premier League.
The Liverpool Echo has reported that the Toffees will launch their appeal against the punishment this week as the fallout continues at Goodison Park.
The finance expert insisted that the interest payments around Bramley-Moore Dock, the perceived loss of sponsorship from the Russia-Ukraine war and their cooperation will all possibly be used.

“The main three things here that we should be focusing on linked to what we’ve seen in the verdict is from a mitigation point of view and looking at the appeal and potentially reducing the sanction,” he exclusively told Goodison News.
“There seems to be three main lines of sight we can see, one is around the interest payments linked to the stadium, one is around the perceived loss of sponsorship owing to the Russia and Ukraine war which links to Alisher Usmanov and the third one is the fact they’ve cooperated with the investigation from the start.

“So, I think those three things there on appeal will be what they are looking at to try and get the sanction reduced.
“That is probably what we’re looking at right now, it’s arguably unlikely that it gets overturned completely, but I think those mitigation factors will be the focus of the appeal for the bulk of it.
“Then you are obviously trying to get a reduced sanction which I think is the middle ground they will be looking at.”
