Everton: ‘Huge’ action to emerge at Goodison Park after Wednesday night meeting

Everton fans are ready to fight back against the recent punishments set by the Premier League for a breach of profit and sustainability regulations, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on 23 November (page 55), that Everton fans have promised they will “take the fight” to the Premier League, beginning with a protest at Goodison on Sunday afternoon following their 10-point deduction.

This is just the start of a weekend-long campaign aimed at forcing real change in the way the organisation is run.

It is understood that a meeting took place between groups of the Toffees’ fans, where the main talking point was about the decision-making structure within the league, involving clubs and MPs.

Dave Kelly, chair of the Everton board, spoke to the national newspaper: “The message of the meeting is that this isn’t an Everton Football Club issue – this is a football issue, because this concerns clubs across the Premier League, and all football clubs across the country.

“We will show a worldwide audience on Sunday the Premier League has picked the wrong club in Everton, and wrong place in Goodison Park.

“We won’t be going anywhere any time soon – we want to get football back on the straight and narrow, and that means real change at the Premier League.

“We will keep this going all the way through to the end of the appeal against the sanction, and through to next year on a war footing – with fans from across the country coming together.”

An unfair punishment?

Everton’s 10-point deduction handed to them by the Premier League represents the biggest punishment in the league’s history.

Everton

With the events described as “unprecedented”, there is real fury around Goodison Park at the decision, which the club are set to appeal and will submit their argument by the end of this week.

At a time with a number of other clubs in the league being investigated for money-related issues, is the Premier League’s ruling on Everton justified and fair?

Comparisons will always come back to Manchester City and Chelsea’s situation, who are both being investigated for money-related breaches. With both at risk of being found guilt of FFP breaches, fans will assume that the two clubs will be punished far greater than Everton have been for what seems to be a minor issue.

Only time will tell if Everton’s appeal is successful, as the club come to terms with exactly why this has happened, and rather why it has not happened to other clubs.
