Simon Jordan rages over ‘absurd’ Everton and Newcastle United decision as Premier League development emerges

Simon Jordan has raged over an absurd decision that has been taken by Everton and seven other Premier League clubs this week.

Writing on page 77 of the Daily Mail’s print edition on Thursday (23 November), the pundit said it was a “nonsense” that eight top-flight sides had voted against a temporary ban on loan deals between teams with the same owners.

He added that it highlights the “ridiculousness” of the vested interests controlling the game, as he believes we could be “heading for a world of pain” if multi-club ownership is started to be used to get around Financial Fair Play.

Controversial

It was a highly controversial move from the clubs in question – Everton, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Wolves and Burnley – to take earlier this week.

It does seem like a conflict of interest when owners can use some of their other sides to ease any FFP concerns they may have at their Premier League asset, with several of the teams in question owned by groups that fall under that bracket.

If the 777 Partners takeover at Goodison Park goes through, then the Toffees will also join that pocket of clubs, so it’s no real surprise to see them vote that way.

Everton

Jordan was frustrated that the decision was taken just after the Blues had been hit with a 10-point deduction after the Premier League took a strict approach to their spending breach.

It doesn’t feel as though this is the last of the loans matter as a number of clubs in the top flight are clearly unhappy at the advantage some sides could gain on the FFP front following this issue.

In other Everton news, a Jack Harrison clause has emerged after a “bizarre” turn of events.
