David Ornstein responds directly to Everton 777 Partners takeover question with ‘confidence’ verdict
David Ornstein has shared an update on 777 Partners’ proposed Everton takeover, suggesting that there remains confidence that the deal will be approved.
The Miami-based investment firm has agreed on a deal to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the Toffees, but since then Sean Dyche’s side have been given a 10-point deduction for breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
Neither Everton nor 777 Partners have decided to comment on the independent commission’s decision, with Ornstein sharing that variable payments are involved in the deal.

Writing in his weekly Athletic Q&A (23 November) he said: “As far as I know there remains confidence at Everton and 777 that the takeover will be approved. But, of course, it is not their decision. It is up to the PL, FA and FCA.
“All documentation the Premier League has asked 777 and Everton for is said to have been submitted. As we know, 777 has lent the club tens of millions of pounds for running costs and stadium build.
“Neither party are commenting on what the P&S punishment means for the takeover, only that the process is ongoing. The deal involves variable payments depending on various factors (such as what division Everton are playing in) and I imagine the P&S case was among those factors.”
All systems go
Throughout this entire process, 777 Partners have been confident that they are fit and proper owners suitable to takeover Everton and it appears as though the Premier League’s point deduction hasn’t had a huge impact on that position.
The only way that these profit and sustainability breaches will have impacted these proceedings is potentially by knocking some of the fee required to complete the takeover off if it is one of the various factors included in the variable payment model suggested by Ornstein.

Whether or not the financial conduct authority, the Premier League and the FA all agree with 777’s verdict that they are suitable owners to takeover Everton remains to be seen, but it is safe to say the latest news out of Goodison Park won’t change much.
There has been plenty of controversy surrounding 777 Partners and while some of their practices around the globe seem slightly worrying, Everton supporters may have to start coming to terms with the fact this deal is happening.
