BBC pundit shares live Youssef Chermiti verdict after what Everton ace did v Manchester United

Leon Osman has shared his live verdict on Everton ace Youssef Chermiti after he came close to opening his goal-scoring account against Manchester United.

The Toffees’ four-match winning run in all competitions came to an end against the Red Devils on Sunday (26 November) as Erik ten Hag’s side ran out 3-0 winners at Goodison Park to see Sean Dyche’s side remain in the Premier League’s relegation zone.

While there was little in Everton’s display to encourage supporters, BBC Sport pundit Osman was impressed by one moment of quality from Toffees’ substitute Chermiti as the Portuguese forward saw a long-range effort just drift wide of the post in injury time

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (26 November, 18:20) he said: “We’ve seen flashes of Youssef Chermiti since he’s been at Everton.

“He’s had a couple of substitute appearances, he’s had moments here and there. That was nearly his best moment in a blue shirt.”

Flashes of brilliance

It wasn’t an easy afternoon to be an Everton supporter on Sunday, with the Toffees struggling to respond as they had previously hoped following the news of their points deduction, but there were enough bright moments from Dyche’s side to suggest that they will be safe this season.

The Toffees actually had a higher xG than Manchester United as they had 24 attempts on the United goal, but only six of those efforts were actually on target. It was a wasteful display from Dyche’s team and part of that struggle was shown in Chermiti’s cameo.

Chermiti was introduced in the 82nd minute and had two shots on goal but failed to test Andre Onana with either effort, the first being the long-range attempt that impressed Osman on commentary and the second being a header from a corner that nearly drifted out for a throw-in.

While the 19-year-old’s wait for a first goal in Everton colours continues, there was enough in his brief cameo on Sunday to show why the Toffees were so keen to bring him to Merseyside this summer. He may not be the finished article, but he certainly carries a threat when he’s on the pitch.

If he keeps getting in these goalscoring positions, it won’t be long until he opens his Everton account. His best moments at Goodison are yet to come.
