Sky Sports explain why they didn’t broadcast Everton anti-Premier League protest

Sky Sports have revealed their reasoning for not showing an Everton plane flying over the Etihad during Manchester City v Liverpool as the club continued their fight against the Premier League, according to The Daily Mail.

As Saturday’s early game between Man City and Liverpool kicked off, a group of Toffees fans took their message to the sky, deploying a banner which read “Premier League – corrupt” following their 10-point deduction earlier this month.

The TV broadcasters stated their reason for steering clear of the message in the sky via The Daily Mail on November 26, saying that they avoided showing the plane protest as they “did not think it relevant to the match being shown”.

A weekend of protests

Everton fans’ banner flying over the Etihad was just the beginning of a long weekend of protesting against the Premier League after being charged for a profit and sustainability charge.

However, many fans believed that Sky were attempting to hide the message, doing everything possible not to upset the League hierarchy with a looming decision about the next round of TV broadcast rights on the horizon.

Sky hit back at this claim, stating that they had “subsequently covered it in news stories”.

Everton

Man City’s 115 charges of various FFP breaches have, of course, caused great upset amongst Everton fans, with the Toffees furious at the unfairness shown to different teams within the division.

As well as the protests, which took part outside Goodison Park before Everton’s match against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, the club are set to appeal the decision and punishment set out by the Premier League.

After the weekend’s matches, Everton remain second-bottom of the league table on four points, with just Burnley below via goal difference.
