Everton transfer news as Toffees interested in Rangers gem Ross McCausland

Everton were one of a number of Premier League and European sides to have shown an interest in Rangers winger Ross McCausland, according to TEAMTalk.

The outlet reported on its website (29 November) that the Toffees were joined by Newcastle, Brighton, Brentford and Crystal Palace in holding an interest in the 20-year-old winger before he agreed to extend his deal with the Scottish Premiership club.

However, Sean Dyche’s side and the host of other Premier League clubs will continue to monitor the Northern Irishman in the future despite the news that he is contracted at Rangers until the summer of 2027.

McCausland has also received interest from abroad as well with Serie A sides Bologna and Genoa among those named as monitoring the Rangers wide-man’s current situation.

One to monitor

Clubs around the world will have been monitoring McCausland’s current situation at Rangers, given the bright start the 20-year-old has had to life in Philippe Clement’s first team over the last couple of months and it is no surprise Everton held an interest.

The Northern Irishman has offered a quick and direct outlet from the right wing in Glasgow and would have suited the playing style of a Premier League winger offering Dyche a completely different option from the wide areas of the pitch.

However, a deal that could have been completed on the cheap if McCausland had run down his contract at Ibrox will now be very expensive to complete. With his new deal at Rangers seeing him remain in Scotland for the next three and a half years, it will likely take a large fee to tempt the Gers into allowing him to depart.

Given the worrying financial climate at Goodison Park and the recent point deduction handed down to the Toffees, it seems unlikely that Everton will be able to beat the likes of Newcastle and Brighton in a bidding war for McCausland in the coming years.

If the Northern Irish international continues to go from strength to strength in the Scottish Premiership, his value is only going to increase and the chances that he joins Everton will continue to fall.
