Everton still at risk of further points deduction this season – The Times

Everton could face another points deduction this season after it was confirmed that any new breach of the profit and sustainability rules should be dealt with by the end of May, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported via their website on 30 November that, having already been deducted 10 points by an independent commission, Everton are concerned they may be “flying close to the wind again”.

Clubs will submit their accounts from the 2022/23 season before the end of December, and new rules state any irregularities will be fast-tracked and dealt with before the end of the season.

Taking too many risks

At this stage, it is difficult to know how much credence to give this latest damaging update as the club have not yet published their accounts, it may just simply be an explainer that Everton could be in for more pain.

The Times does not state whether Everton believe they have breached profit and sustainability rules in the last financial year, but the report insists there are concerns about the calculation system which was used to hand them the initial 10-point penalty.

Previously, these accounts would have been submitted in March and assessed before the next financial year, but with the new rule stating they will be fast-tracked, it does of course leave open the possibility of more punishment, albeit it could be there is nothing to worry about.

This will come as yet another concern for fans of the Merseyside club, and although nothing is confirmed yet and the report does not suggest it is likely beyond the concerns of some around the club, any further issue could cause catastrophic problems at Goodison Park.
