Sean Dyche issues response to ‘stories’ on Everton future after Premier League points deduction

Everton manager Sean Dyche has issued a response to the “stories” about his future in the dugout at Goodison Park.

According to the Daily Mail (28 November), the Toffees intend to discuss a contract extension with the boss, but their 10-point deduction has delayed talks.

The Merseyside outfit were handed the punishment earlier this month for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

“I have no idea where these stories are coming from,” said Dyche, as quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano on his personal X account (28 November). “I don’t know really, I am cracking on with the team here at Everton.”

Safe for now?

The sackings in the Premier League have certainly eased this season compared to last time out, with several managers losing their jobs in the build-up to Christmas in the last campaign.

But Dyche should have no such worries, with the manager doing a fine job at Goodison Park this season considering the circumstances.

The Toffees dropped from 14th place to 19th place in the Premier League table following their points deduction, and that is where they currently sit after losing 3-0 at home to Manchester United in their first match since the punishment.

But there is plenty of hope around Goodison that relegation can be avoided once again this season with Dyche at the helm.

The boss guided the Toffees to safety on the final day of the season last time out, with Everton defeating Bournemouth 1-0 in dramatic circumstances.

The man in the dugout will be hoping for less drama this season, although the Toffees do have an uphill task given how they are currently five points away from safety.

In other Everton news, a journalist has slammed the Toffees after their defeat to Manchester United as a “dogs of war” claim is made.
