Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy make ‘enormous’ Everton relegation admission after Nottingham Forest win

Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy have both admitted that the win over Nottingham Forest could prove to be “enormous” for Everton in their fight against relegation.

The Toffees ran out 1-0 winners at the City Ground on Saturday (2 December) thanks to a second-half strike from Dwight McNeil to move Sean Dyche’s side within two points of Premier League safety following their 10-point deduction.

While a lot of work remains to ensure that Everton avoid relegation, Cundy has insisted that Dyche’s team will be out of the bottom three before Christmas, while O’Hara was impressed they came away with all three points against Forest.

Speaking on talkSPORT (2 December, 19:27) he said: “Massive result for Everton, huge, huge three points. Not an easy place to go so to go and get three points there. If they didn’t have the 10 points they’d be above Chelsea.”

Cundy replied saying: “Fair play to Everton, that is enormous. I felt even with those ten points, they’d be out of the bottom three by Christmas. I have to say a point I thought I might get here, but that’s a massive win, a huge win.

“If you’re an Everton fan I don’t see where the concern is. They’ll be fine.”

Enormous three points

The truth of the matter is that every point between now and the end of the season could well prove to be crucial for Everton and their fight against relegation. But the Toffees will be much more likely to avoid the drop if they continue to get results like they managed on Saturday.

The City Ground has been a tough place for away sides to travel to since Forest returned to the Premier League, but Everton were well worthy of their three points on Saturday and on another day they may well have won much more comfortably.

To suggest that the Toffees will be away from the bottom three by Christmas as Cundy did live on air may be slightly hopeful as the upcoming run of fixtures is by no means easy for Dyche’s side, but there is no reason Everton can’t build from Saturday’s result.

Everton fans are allowed to be concerned given the circumstances at Goodison, but if the Toffees play like that between now and May, they will dodge the drop.
