BBC pundit left fuming at controversy footage from Everton v Nottingham Forest
Shay Given has not been impressed by the footage that has emerged from the Everton v Nottingham Forest clash on Saturday, 2 December.
The Toffees won the game 1-0 but the scoreline could’ve been a lot different if the hosts had been handed a second-half penalty.
Given, a BBC pundit, emphasised the need for there to be accuracy across the board, which there clearly isn’t.
He said on Premier League’s Weekend Wrap (03 December, 21:48), “It’s an embarrassment after what’s been given in the Newcastle game. It should’ve been a penalty or at least sent the referee to check it. He’s holding on to the jersey for a decent amount of time.”
Changes needed
In the game against Forest, VAR made a significant error that played a pivotal role in Everton’s victory.
This incident adds to a growing list of controversial decisions over the weekend, raising concerns about the consistency and accuracy of VAR.
While the Toffees and their fans may rejoice over the favourable outcome, it underscores the pressing need for a serious conversation in the Premier League offices regarding the efficacy of VAR.

The technology, intended to eliminate human error, has instead become a source of frustration and debate.
Everton’s fortune in this instance highlights the potential for VAR to influence match outcomes in an unpredictable manner.
The integrity of the game is at stake when such errors occur, impacting not only the teams involved but the overall fan experience.
A comprehensive review of VAR procedures and protocols is imperative to ensure fair play and maintain the sport’s credibility.
The Premier League must address the systemic issues that lead to these errors, emphasising the importance of transparency and accountability.
