Newcastle ace Anthony Gordon in ‘no secret’ admission over Everton return
Anthony Gordon says it is “no secret” Newcastle United are heading into a tough environment when he makes his return to Goodison Park to face Everton on Thursday.
The winger, who departed Merseyside for St James’ Park in January, makes his second return to Goodison when the sides face off in the Premier League on 7 December.
Gordon, 22, insists the fixture will be no different than any other games for him but acknowledged the tough atmosphere Newcastle are about to face.
“This game coming up is no different for me than any other,” Gordon told NUFC TV in quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo (4 December).
“It’s another game I’m looking to perform in and win the game. We’re in a really good place. We know the environment we’re going to go into on Thursday. It’s no secret and we need to be ready for that.
“It’s going to be a challenging game and one that we’re looking to win.”
Make it hostile
Everton earned a crucial 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest at the weekend with Dwight McNeil’s second-half strike enough to take all three points back to Merseyside and leave the Toffees just two points adrift of safety having been stung by a 10-point deduction for a breach of profit and sustainability rules.
But there is still a lot of work to do, and Newcastle are riding high after an impressive 1-0 victory over Manchester United – a match in which Gordon scored the winner for Eddie Howe’s side.
One thing that Everton do need to improve, and fast, is their home record. Sean Dyche’s men have managed ony one home Premier League victory to their name this season and Newcastle certainly represents a tough fixture.
With a noisy Goodison behind them, though, Everton can impose themselves on the game and earn a big victory and send Gordon back to Newcastle in a bad mood.
