Paul Brown shares Everton ‘conundrum’ as Beto ‘lost’ at Goodison
Paul Brown believes Beto is a “conundrum” for Everton on the back of his performances since signing for the club.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (6 December), the former Daily Star journalist said the 25-year-old has looked a bit “clumsy” and “lost” after making the £25million move from Udinese over the summer.
But he believes that once the Portuguese forward settles down and adapts, he could be a success because he has “good movement” and is a “goal threat”.

“Beto is a conundrum,” said Brown. “I thought this as soon as he came in. He’s big, strong, quick, dynamic. His movement is good. He’s a goal threat. But at times, he can also look a little bit clumsy, a little bit lost.
“I think he really needs his first Premier League goal and you’ll see him grow in confidence. He’s got the ability. I think he’s got goals in him. I just think that at the moment he’s snatching things and he’s maybe trying a little bit too hard.
“I think once he settles down and adapts he will be successful in this league. He’s got all the skills that they needed from him. So I think Sean Dyche and Everton fans will just have to be a little bit patient with him and hope that he gets on the scoresheet sooner rather than later.”
Tough
It’s been a tough start for Beto at Everton after he has so far struggled to get up to speed with the demands of the Premier League.
There is a reason why several players don’t manage to adapt, but even for some of the league’s best talents, it took them some time to get to grips with it.
Sean Dyche will give him time to settle in and will be working out how to get the best out of him after he has improved a number of forwards over the years.

The Portuguese is probably going to have to settle for playing second fiddle to first-choice striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a while, but there could be plenty worse players to learn from as he looks to improve.
He really just needs to dig deep and find a way to grab his first league goal and that should provide him with plenty of confidence to ensure he has a successful first season at Goodison Park.
