Sean Dyche shares ‘important’ admission on Beto at Everton, ‘There’s a bit more pressure’

Sean Dyche believes it’s an “important factor” that Beto is continuing to work “very hard” on his game on and off the pitch at Everton.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday (6 December), the Toffees boss said the Portuguese forward is “going along nicely” and that it will take a bit of time for the 25-year-old and fellow summer signing Youssef Chermiti to adapt to the Premier League.

He added that there is “a bit more pressure” around the attacking end of the pitch, but that the competition is good for first-choice striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as he looks to return from injury ahead of the game against Newcastle United on Thursday (7 December).

“He’s developing,” said Dyche. “I think Youseff’s working really hard as well. We want them to develop, it takes a bit of time coming into the Premier League and he’s continued to work very hard at his game both on and off the pitch. I think that’s an important factor, but he’s going along nicely.

“Dom we know is a very good player and he’s been a big player for Everton for a while now. We want him to continue doing that and that also is good for Dom, that demand on him to stay in the team because of Beto. I mean, Youseff’s younger, but he’s also working very hard.

“There’s a bit more pressure around that area of the pitch and Dom’s been leading the line for a while now and he’s a very good player, so when Dom’s fit at the moment, he’s very much in our minds quite obviously, and Beto’s still learning from being around that.”

Need more

It’s never easy for players to come straight into the Premier League and have an impact unless they are extremely talented and are joining one of the best teams.

The demands are much higher than in any other league and players – particularly forwards – can quickly lose their confidence if they don’t adapt quickly.

Beto has failed to score in his nine league appearances since joining for more than £25million during the summer transfer window from Udinese.

He got a chance to start in the Toffees’ 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday (2 December), but he didn’t put in the best performance and missed a huge chance.

The forward needs to provide a bit more for the Blues when Calvert-Lewin is out of the side because they are big shoes to fill and Dyche is going to need goals to come from different players across this season.
