Journalist makes Everton joke at expense of Sheffield United after fan chant v Liverpool

Journalist Daniel Storey joked that the 10-point deduction handed to Everton “was just a distraction” after a bizarre chant from Sheffield United supporters.

Blades fans accused the Premier League of being “corrupt” in an expletive-ridden song at Bramall Lane during Wednesday’s meeting with Liverpool.

That came after a free-kick was awarded in Liverpool’s favour as the visitors went on to claim a 2-0 victory through goals from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai.

iNews journalist Storey, who was at the game, posted about the fan chant on his personal Twitter page and added [6 December]: “Can’t keep up. Presumably docking Everton 10 points was just a distraction in the Great Sheffield United Robbery.”

Don’t know the start of it

If anyone is justified in accusing the Premier League of corruption, it is Everton supporters.

Certain aspects of the case that led to last month’s points deduction – a record for an English top-flight club – has since been found to have been flawed.

Having a refereeing decision go against you, whether it be a free-kick, penalty kick, corner kick or whatever, is simply down to the low standards of officials in the division right now – not an agenda on the Premier League’s behalf.

Everton

Everton fans have been ridiculed in some quarters for feeling as though the Premier League has a personal vendetta against them, but it is hard not to feel that way after recent developments.

Sheffield United fans may have felt wronged against Liverpool – they would not be alone! – but to say they do not know the start of it is an understatement.

Only when they are seemingly made an example of will they be fully justified in that regard.

In other Everton news, footage shared on Wednesday (6 December) showed the latest landmark that has been hit in the construction of the new stadium.
