Barcelona target Everton star Amadou Onana in search for ‘new Yaya Toure’

Everton midfield star Amadou Onana has emerged as a possible target for Barcelona, with the Spanish giants searching for the “new Yaya Toure”, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish news outlet shared via their website [8 December] that Onana has emerged as a potential target as a result of his height and great displays in the Premier League and with Belgium.

It is noted that Onana’s contract ends in 2027, suggesting a deal may be achievable if he does not extend that deal, although the deal expires later than another potential target Yousuf Fofana from Monaco.

Everton must keep hold of him

If they want to continue taking strides forward rather than backwards, Everton must make sure they keep hold of Onana, who is one of their most talented players and represents the forward-thinking direction they want to head in.

Kevin Thelwell recently spoke of the importance of having resale value on the players at Goodison Park, and a possible deal with Barcelona could certainly see that come to light in the case of Onana. £35million was spent on bringing him to the club, so any deal would need to eclipse that fee.

Everton have to hope that playing in the Premier League and aiming to compete further up the table as they continue to make progress towards a long-term plan, with the Bramley Moore Dock Stadium also on the horizon, can tempt Onana to remain on Merseyside.

That being said, the allure of playing for one of, if not the biggest club in the world with the respect and stature that comes along with playing for Barcelona may be near impossible for Onana to turn down should the opportunity come up.
