Richard Keys sends ‘legend’ message after Everton win v Chelsea

Richard Keys has said that Everton manager Sean Dyche could become a “legend” at Goodison Park following the Toffees win over Chelsea on Sunday 10 December.

The Toffees ran out 2-0 winners at Goodison Park thanks to second-half strikes from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin to climb even further away from the relegation zone, now sitting three points above Luton Town in 18th.

While Keys has insisted that he always believed the Toffees would avoid the drop regardless of their recent point deduction, he believes how Dyche operates in the Goodison technical area could see him become an Everton legend.

Writing on his own personal blog on Monday (11 December) he said: “Finally…a word for big Dychey. The Toffees are out of the bottom three and the points deduction is all but forgotten. I’ve never doubted that Everton would be ok.

“They’ll finish 10th/12th-ish. Dyche looks so comfortable in their technical area. This time it’s the right man in the right place very much at the right time.

“Dyche could yet go on to make himself a legend at Goodison.”

Become a legend

There is still a lot of football to be played between now and the end of the season and nothing is certain surrounding Everton’s future and the remainder of the Premier League campaign, but things are certainly beginning to look up at Goodison Park.

As Keys suggested, the point deduction given to the Toffees has almost already been forgotten as since that news emerged on Merseyside, Dyche’s side have taken nine points from their next four games and almost written off the deduction in its entirety.

Had the breaches of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules not been broken, Everton would be sitting pretty in the top half of the table and would already be preparing for another campaign in the top flight and Dyche deserves immense credit for that turnaround.

The Toffees boss has faced adversity since he arrived at Goodison and took over a mess of a side that had been struggling under Frank Lampard’s management and while they may not be pretty to watch, they have found a way to win games and keep picking up points.

He may not be a legend yet, but if he continues to go from strength to strength he will likely match Keys’ prediction.
