Kevin Campbell delivers ‘dreadful’ Everton opinion after recent events at Goodison Park

Kevin Campbell felt “dreadful” after the 10-point deduction handed out to Everton but is delighted it has been used to “galvanise the club”.

The Toffees were contentiously hit with the punishment for a breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, a ruling the club has challenged.

However, on the pitch Everton have racked up three straight victories to put a four-point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone.

Former Toffees striker, now a pundit, told Sky Sports News on Tuesday (12 December, 10:22am): “Listen at the time I’ve got to be honest with you, when I saw the 10 points, it was dreadful, I felt dreadful for the club.

“But what Sean Dyche and his staff at the football club and the fans have done, they’ve used it as a platform to galvanise the club, everyone’s together, us against the world and they’ve really, really pushed on.”

Fuel for the fire

It is fair to say that most fans of clubs outside of the Premier League’s so called ‘Big Six’ have some sort of grievances with the higher-ups in the league, and most will feel their teams are hard done by compared to others.

When it comes to Everton there are probably more legitimate grievances than others, though, let’s have it right. Even now, weeks after the event, it is a head-scratcher as to where a 10-point deduction was plucked from.

But Campbell is absolutely right, it has only served to bring everyone together, certainly the team together and the supporters together with Dyche and the players on the pitch.

There are still a plethora of issues to solve off it, including whether the proposed takeover of the club by Miami-based firm 777 Partners will get the green light to go ahead. But, for now, the team is doing the business on the pitch. Long may that continue.

In other Everton news, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were wowed by the “brilliant” Sean Dyche after the Chelsea win.
