Kevin Campbell gushes over ‘outstanding’ Everton ace Dwight McNeil live on Sky

Kevin Campbell waxed lyrical over the recent “outstanding” form of Dwight McNeil and said he is one of several players to “come to the party” for Everton.

The Toffees have racked up three straight Premier League victories over Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Chelsea, to put a four-point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone despite being hit with a contentious 10-point deduction for a breach of profit and sustainability rules.

McNeil was on target in the Forest and Newcastle wins and ex-Toffees striker, now a pundit, spoke to Sky Sports News (12 December, 10:22am) to hail the ex-Burnley man.

“Doucoure and all these guys, they’ve really responded and Dwight McNeil I think has been outstanding as well,” he said.

“A lot of these players have come to the party and are making Everton feel proud, I feel proud to see them win back-to-back-to-back games and especially Sunday, winning that game that was really important against a really good Chelsea side, so getting three wins on the bounce it really makes a difference.”

A diamond

There was not an immediate sense that McNeil was a good signing for Everton when he joined from Burnley, but he is really starting to step up and prove his worth for the Toffees.

McNeil is the epitome of what Dyche demands from his teams. A hard worker, a willing runner, good at tracking back, not shy of doing the knitty-gritty defensive work.

But he is also showing plenty of quality in attack, as shown by his crucials goals in the victories over Forest and Newcastle. More vital contributions like that certainly would not go amiss in the coming weeks, especially as we enter a busy festive period.

Every player seems to be standing up and being counted in recent weeks and that is especially crucial in the context of what Everton have been through in the past month or so. Credit to everyone involved for that and long may it continue.
