Paul Brown shares what Sean Dyche has done to ‘crucial’ Dwight McNeil amid Everton turnaround
Sean Dyche is the best thing to have happened to Dwight McNeil since he joined Everton, according to Paul Brown.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (13 December), the former Daily Star journalist said the 24-year-old has progressed into a “crucial” player for the Toffees after many people previously had doubts about him.
He believes the Blues boss has given the Englishman confidence as he knows the manager “trusts” him, adding that he expects the winger to get “even better” at Goodison Park.

“I think he’s progressed into a crucial player for Everton, and I think many people had doubts about him for a long time,” said Brown. “So, I think Dyche is probably the best thing to have happened to McNeil at Everton. He’s given him some confidence.
“He knows the manager trusts him and believes in him, and he’s in the form of his life. I think he’ll get even better. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet.”
Quality
It’s understandable that there were previously plenty of doubts about McNeil after he initially struggled to adapt to life with Everton following his move from Burnley in 2022.
But the winger had an upturn in form towards the back end of last season following the arrival of Dyche, where he scored five goals in the last few games to help the Toffees fight off relegation.
He hasn’t exactly delivered in terms of stats this season – registering two goals and three assists in 15 appearances in all competitions – but he is having an impact on every game he plays at the moment.

The Englishman has nailed down a place on the left-hand side of the midfield, with Dyche trusting him to get forward and attack as well as do his defensive duties.
He will be hoping to continue improving over the next few months as he looks to ensure the Blues record a successful season on the back of a couple of disappointing campaigns.
