Doctor shares Dele Alli injury news as images emerge from Everton training

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Everton...

Everton attacker Dele Alli has returned to training but is still some way away from a first-team comeback, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The 27-year-old is yet to feature this season or under manager Sean Dyche after a lengthy injury setback on his groin.

Images emerged of the England international back in training with his Toffees teammates and it appears that he will not require surgery.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Goodison News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Based on my reading of the situation, this sounds like he wasn’t responding as well as hoped to rehab and thus his timeline continued to be pushed back.

However, there comes a time when surgery may become a better option when things aren’t trending well for an extended period of time.

That looked to be the case here but he’s back in training and appears to be on the right track.

As for his return and getting back to pre-injury levels, the longer he’s out, the more rust he has to shake off and the more risk he’s at for other injuries as well.

Alli spent last season on loan at Besiktas and while he was sent to gain first-team minutes and find his way back into the Toffees squad, things did not quite work out as planned.

He then faced an injury during his rehab, which further added to his woes.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for him and whether or not he forces his way back into Dyche’s plans.
