Everton can forget about Kalvin Phillips transfer as Fabrizio Romano drops update on Manchester City man

Everton are on a superb run under Sean Dyche, with the Toffees in blistering form ever since their 10-point deduction.

The Merseyside outfit did lose 3-0 to Manchester United in their first match since the punishment, which brought them down to 19th place in the table.

But after that defeat, they have clinched four fantastic victories against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Burnley.

A real team effort has led to those results, but perhaps Dyche still needs further talent in his squad in order to ensure the momentum doesn’t slow down.

The January transfer window is rapidly approaching, and the man in the dugout may just add one or two new faces, even if finances are tight at Goodison Park.

But one player that he must forget about is Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, with iNews (10 October) reporting that Everton are among the clubs interested in his signature.

However, they have now been dealt a huge blow in that pursuit, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on X on Monday (18 December) that Juventus have opened talks with Manchester City regarding a move for the England international.

Despite his struggles at the Etihad, the 28-year-old could have perhaps reignited his career on Merseyside, but a switch to Everton now seems unlikely.

Toffees supporters will certainly welcome any new additions with open arms, but given the impressive displays of current midfielders James Garner and Abdoulaye Doucoure, perhaps there are more urgent areas that need addressing.

It remains to be seen where Phillips ends up, but the midfielder looks certain to move on from Manchester City next month, either temporarily or permanently.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has shared what Dyche did at the full-time whistle after the win against Burnley.
