Everton will not let Amadou Onana leave in January to join Barcelona

Despite interest from Barcelona, Everton are unwilling to allow Amadou Onana to leave Goodison Park in January as they try to avoid relegation despite a ten-point deduction, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish news outlet reported via their website on 20 December that Barcelona’s objective is to bring in a midfielder in January on a short-term deal before looking for a permanent deal in the summer.

It is suggested that the deal could take place at the end of the season, but Everton have ruled out the possibility of a January sale as they are not willing to see a key player leave now.

No chance he will leave now

There’s very little chance Onana would leave Everton in January unless a ridiculous bid came in, and judging by the reports, the likelihood of that happening is very slim.

Interest from Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United has been widely reported this season and appears to have accelerated in recent days, but the Belgian remains a key player for Sean Dyche and given the difficult situation at Everton, they will need to lean on his quality.

Despite the recent upturn in form under the leadership of Dyche, Everton will be aware that these things cannot last forever, and that their star players will need to step up in the coming weeks if they want to continue their impressive run and move towards securing their safety.

Whether or not he could quit Goodison Park in the summer is a different story, though. If some of Europe’s top clubs are still expressing an interest, and keen to spend big money, it could be a deal that works for both Onana and the club that sees him depart.
