Aston Villa ‘furious’ after FA development as Everton loanee Neal Maupay involved in ‘farcical’ scenes

Everton loanee Neal Maupay was involved in some “farcical” scenes during Brentford’s match against a “furious” Aston Villa, according to Daily Mail.

The national news outlet reported [22 December] that, despite both Villa and Brentford being charged by the FA for failure to control their players, the former club are extremely unhappy with the Bees’ conduct.

Brentford substitute, who is on loan from the Toffees until the end of the season, was involved with Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The Frenchman charged the shot-stopper down, with the latter falling to the floor after an altercation.

Eleven yellow cards, including both managers, were brandished during the last 20 minutes last Sunday, with Ben Mee and Boubacar Kamara sent off in a chaotic Premier League match.

A dangerous game to play

We all know that Maupay can be a troublemaker when he wants to be, earning a total of 18 Premier League yellow cards since 2019. He also managed to accumulate 18 yellow cards during two previous seasons with Brentford in the Championship.

There is a fine line between being passionate about winning and doing something stupid. With Maupay, the line is usually blurred.

Last month, the 27-year-old scored his first goal in 14 months in a 3-2 home win over West Ham, scoring his second of the season against Luton Town less than a month later.

The forward is a strange phenomenon. During his breakout seasons with Brentford, he scored 37 goals across 85 appearances. He even managed 26 goals in his first three Premier League seasons.

However, in his last two seasons, Maupay has only hit the back of the net three times. There is a lot of doubt over his future at Goodison Park, with his loan deal coming to an end in June 2024.

As evidenced by his recent actions at the Gtech Community Stadium, Maupay offers far more problems than solutions, picking up more cautions than goals scored. Is it worth keeping the player? Probably not.

Will it be easy trying to sell him in January or the summer? The answer remains to be seen.
