Beto wowed by what he’s seen Everton fans do at Goodison Park
Beto has admitted that he has been left stunned by the atmosphere generated by supporters at Goodison Park after scoring his first Everton home goal.
The Portuguese forward, signed from Udinese over the summer for £25.75m [Sky Sports, 29 August] has taken a while to burst into life at Goodison but bagged his first goal on home turf in the 3-0 win over Newcastle (7 December).
Speaking to Sky Sports News (22 December) ahead of Saturday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur, the 25-year-old admitted he’s long with the songs the fans sing after goals against the Magpies and Fulham in the EFL Cup on Tuesday (19 December).
He said: “I’m in love with them, they’re in love with me, I like them a lot because they’ve supported me since day one, the day that I arrived here so for me, it’s really good to have this relationship with them.”
Asked what his favourite song is from the Everton fans, he added: “The song, things can only better, I didn’t even listen to this song until Seamus (Coleman) started singing it, and I was like ‘Beto?’ I didn’t know.
“But for me it’s the Beto song. The relief was for them, they want me to score more than I want to score because for them, it was like a joy and for me, it was a joy to see how happy they were when I scored so now I want to give them that feeling more.”
Growing in confidence
It’s certainly safe to say Beto has not enjoyed an easy ride to life on Merseyside since his big-money move but what Everton fans love about their players will always be their passion, energy, aggression and work-rate and that’s one of the main reasons why Sean Dyche green-lighted a move for the Portuguese forward.
The 25-year-old may not have been scoring the goals but he’s certainly been putting himself about with his energy, endeavour and pressing from the front which has certainly endeared himself to fans.

It’s now two goals in his last two games for the £25m signing and he is certainly growing in confidence and the help and support from the Everton supporters can only help him to improve his form at Goodison Park.
Dyche’s main man up top Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t enjoyed the best of form in recent weeks and has seen his performance levels drop too, but fans are safe in the knowledge that Beto will come on to do a job for them as shown against Newcastle and Fulham.
Should Calvert-Lewin’s struggles continue, it won’t be long before Beto is handed more starts at his expense.
In other Everton news, Andre Gomes could be in the matchday squad when the Toffees face Tottenham on Saturday.
