Doctor shares injury update on Everton midfielder Andre Gomes v Manchester City

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Everton...

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes is in contention to start v Manchester City, having come off the bench against Tottenham, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The Portuguese midfielder came on in the 25th minute of the game that ended up 2-1 in favour of Tottenham on Saturday, 23 December.

He managed to find the back of the net as well and the injury expert believes he should be ready for the full 90 minutes.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Goodison News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

His first team training at this point should be quite similar to other players.

They are using his minutes with the reserves to build his fitness to then participate in first team matches.

The staff will be monitoring how he’s responding to the minutes in terms of pain/soreness and how he’s moving.

He should be ready to play the full 90 minutes in the next game as he played three-fourths of the game over the weekend.”

Gomes did not look like a player carrying nerves or any rustiness as he appeared to hit the ground running against Spurs.

Having come off such a long-term injury, the expectation was that he may take some time to adapt to the pace of the game.

He’ll certainly be in contention for minutes on 27 December but whether or not he starts, remains to be seen.
