Jermaine Beckford left stunned live on BBC by what happened in Everton v Manchester City, ‘Wowsers’

Jermaine Beckford hailed the “absolutely fantastic” goal scored by Jack Harrison to give Everton the lead against Manchester City.

Harrison’s strike, as shared by The Athletic via Amazon Prime on Twitter, came against the run of play in Wednesday’s (27 December) Premier League contest at Goodison Park.

The Leeds United loanee converted from close range after being picked out by Dwight McNeil just inside the six-yard box.

Reacting to the goal on BBC Radio 5 Live [27 December, 20:45pm], former Everton striker Beckford said: “What a goal that was. Wowsers. That was absolutely fantastic play.

“The way Everton have played, they’re never going to dominate possession, but every time they’ve picked the ball up they’ve caused problems.”

Well taken

Man City may have had plenty of the ball, but Everton took their chance when it arrived during the first half of the contest at Goodison Park.

There was nothing special about Harrison’s goal as such, but the simplicity of it, plus the fact nobody saw it coming, is what made it so good.

McNeil got the ball back, looked up and saw Harrison well positioned in front of goal to fire past Ederson with a first-time finish.

Everton

That may have been the Toffees’ only chance of the opening 45 minutes, but that matters little – it is about what you do with your opportunities.

That was Harrison’s second goal in 12 Premier League appearances, alongside three assists, which is a productive return.

Harrison does exactly what Sean Dyche asks for him and this goal will fill him with plenty of confidence going forward.
