Richard Keys sends Everton warning after what he saw v Wolves

Richard Keys has warned Sean Dyche and Everton that they must be careful not to lose their focus after three consecutive defeats including a 3-0 loss to Wolves on 30 December.

Keys claimed Dyche’s side will need a couple of big results when the Premier League gets back underway after the FA Cup break to get their season back on track.

He did, however, claim that he has no doubts about Everton and whether they will stay up despite the recent form and ten-point deduction for financial breaches.

“As you all know, I’ve never had any doubts about Everton, despite the 10-point deduction,” Wrote Keys in his blog [1 January],

“But they’ve got to be careful now. They need a couple of big results again when we get going after the FA Cup break.”

Form needs to get back on track

Three consecutive defeats, albeit two of them to high-flying Tottenham and Manchester City, have dampened the mood somewhat around Goodison Park after the jubilation of a four-game winning run which included wins against Newcastle and Chelsea.

Usually with these kinds of inconsistent runs of form, you can point to it simply being what happens in a season. Everton should be a mid-table side, they’ll win some games and they’ll lose others, but with the ten-point deduction, things become more precarious.

As Keys warns, Dyche’s team will need to step up and earn a couple of big results in the coming weeks to avoid the anxiety involved with being dragged into a relegation dogfight, with the likes of Luton showing they are capable.

Everton

Everton currently sit in 17th place, just one point above Luton having played one more game than their rivals, and tensions at Goodison Park are starting to rise as a result of the big loss to Wolves. While they have proven they should be fine, results will need to pick up.
