David Ornstein delivers transfer update on Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher amid Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle links
Everton are unlikely to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher who’s also been linked with Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist said that the England international did not fancy a move to Goodison Park even when the club were willing to shell out money for him over the summer.
While he will not join the Toffees in January, a move to Tottenham or Newcastle may be on the cards but it will come at a premium.
Ornstein told Vibe With Five at 34:50 on 2 January: “Sometimes it just comes down to economics and they’ll have something to think about in January but maybe they won’t. It depends on what comes forward.
“People have rightly pointed out that Tottenham retained an interest in him. They tried to sign him in the summer window, and they may come back again but to go to that level that I mentioned around £60million Tottenham are going to need to shift some significant players to raise the money for it.
“Newcastle have been linked in the past but their financial fair play situation makes that tricky.
“Everton I don’t think Conor Gallagher wanted to go there in the past and couldn’t see it even if they could pay for it so it’s just one definitely one to watch.”
No chance
Gallagher, who has excelled at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino, did not entertain the idea of a move to Goodison Park and there’s no reason he would now.
The financial aspect plays a crucial role, with the Toffees facing competition from clubs like Tottenham and Newcastle.

In essence, Everton appears disadvantaged in terms of financial capacity compared to rivals, diminishing their chances of securing Gallagher.
Sean Dyche may not even want to buy a midfielder in January and could look for defensive reinforcements and perhaps another wide player.
However, any new signing is likely to be followed by a sale as there just is no money at Everton with everything going on about the takeover and the Profit & Sustainability drama.
Hopefully, Dyche is backed in some way at least, as he’s worked within incredible constraints and done fantastically well.
In other Everton news, a club shareholder has gone on record to slam a “terrible” development surrounding the Toffees and has made an admission on Sean Dyche.
